Mobile App: Make available via EMM/MDM

If you manage mobile devices centrally in your company, you can also make the mobile app available to your users specifically via enterprise mobility management (EMM).

Here you can find out which configuration options might be available to you.

Basics

For the sake of simplicity, we understand EMM, as an all-encompassing term, to include related disciplines such as mobile application management (MAM) and mobile device management (MDM).

For the mobile app and the options mentioned here, you can use most EMM providers that are part of the AppConfig.org community. The important thing here is that the EMM does not need its own SDK within the app for an option, because we do not include an SDK.

Configuration in EMM

The mobile app supports a basic set of policies that can be enforced via EMM and are compatible with most EMM providers.

These parameters are available for configuration:

Feature Key Type Default value
The EMM admin can preset the tenant URL tenantUrl String

example.coyocloud.com

The EMM admin can enforce that the app lock is being used enforceAppLock Boolean

false

The EMM admin can set a minimum complexity

  • LOW: 4-digit
  • MEDIUM: 6-digit
  • HIGH: Alphanumeric, min 8 characters
passcodeComplexity String, uppercase LOW
Set if biometrical unlock is allowed. biometricUnlockAllowed Boolean true

Please pay attention to the following difference between Android and iOS:

  • Android: Your EMM service should be able to read the configuration options from the app once the app is initialized in your EMM service.
  • iOS:You have to maintain the keys and values manually in the EMM service. Pay attention to the upper and lower case.

Other EMM features

AppConfig.org suggests a list of EMM features that should be available to you without us having to explicitly implement them in the mobile app:

  • App tunnel (VPN)
  • Specify (app) encryption
  • Remote deletion of the app
  • Disabling screenshots
  • Prevent app backup

For more information, see the documentation from your EMM provider.

Note:

Please note that these functions do not always work reliably with the app if they are only controlled from the outside.

Companies with managed and private devices

It's all in the mix: If your company allows both company-owned smartphones (COD = Corporate Owned Device) and private ones (BYOD = Bring your own Device), the app will fit into the concept without any problems.

It is easily possible to distribute the app to some of your employees via EMM and offer the other part of the workforce a simple installation via the app stores.

Special features for the white label app

A white label app can be deployed in the same way via your EMM provider.

For iOS you need to use Apple Business Manager and for Android the equivalent Google for Work. We need to activate your corresponding IDs and accounts for your white label app. Please contact our service desk for this.
