Which content elements on the platform support GIFs?

You can use GIFs in the following areas of the platform:

  • RTE widget (Rich Text Editor): This is the most flexible widget for incorporating various types of rich media, including GIFs. You can use GIFs anywhere the rich text editor is located, meaning in blog articles, wiki articles, forum threads, etc. You can upload a GIF to the RTE just like you would upload an image: Adding images and videos in the rich text editor.
  • Teaser widget: Your GIF will work if you use the Teaser size > Custom option for your Teaser Widget. In the other sizes, Wide and Square, the GIF will be cropped upon upload and become a static image instead.
  • Timeline: GIFs are supported in timeline posts. They won't play automatically; users need to click the play icon.
  • Studio: GIFs are supported in multichannel posts (including the teaser on the timeline and digital signage) and email newsletters. Modern email clients such as Gmail support GIFs within emails. If your GIF doesn't play in the email, please check your email client's documentation to confirm it supports GIFs.
  • Comments: GIFs are supported in comments. Like on the timeline, they won't play automatically; users need to click the play icon.

While GIFs are supported, we recommend optimizing your file sizes to ensure quick loading and the best user experience! The bigger the GIF, the longer it takes to load.

Why don't GIFs work everywhere?

Generally, when the platform prompts you to crop an image you upload, a GIF will stop working after cropping. This means you can't use GIFs in areas that require image cropping, like the hero teaser or teasers for blog articles.
