Creating custom kudos types

Boost your company culture and show appreciation for your team members by creating custom kudos categories that fit your organization. With personalized categories, employees can have a fun and engaging way to recognize each other's hard work, while sharing your company's culture, whether it's celebrating specific achievements or highlighting your core values.

You cannot mix-and-match between Haiilo's default kudos and your custom kudos. When you use custom kudos, you only use your own kudos. However, any previously sent kudos using Haiilo's default kudos will still be visible on the timeline and on the user's profile.

Create a custom kudos type

You can set up your custom kudos before activating them or the kudos features overall, giving you time to build out your kudos landscape before making it available to your users.

  1. Go to Administration > Features > Miscellaneous > Kudos.
  2. Select Create custom type to create a new kudos type.
  3. Give your kudos a name. We suggest keeping it brief and engaging. This name appears to users when they choose which kudos to send, and also in the kudos message, like "Jane Smith sends the kudos_name kudos to John Smith."
  4. Upload images in PNG or JPG format to act as the background for the kudos on the browser and mobile app.
    • Browser: The image should be in the dimensions 1348px x 106px.
    • Mobile app: The image should be in the dimensions 933px x 318px
  5. Select Create kudos.

You can create multiple custom kudos and see what they'll look like on the right-hand preview. When you're done, remember to select Save changes at the bottom of the section and activate your kudos

You can edit your kudos with the pen icon.png icon. You can also adjust the order in which they display to users by dragging and dropping them by the lines move order.png icon.

Four custom kudos are ready. One of them, "Win Some, Learn Some", is inactive.

Activate custom kudos

After setting up your custom kudos, you'll need to turn them on so users can use them. Also, make sure you've enabled the kudos feature.

  1. Make sure the checkboxes are checked for the custom kudos you want to use.
  2. Toggle Activate in the upper right corner of the section.

Your custom kudos are now activated, and your users can use them when sending kudos. You can deactivate your custom kudos if you ever want to revert to Haiilo's default kudos.

Active, inactive, or deleted kudos

There are three statuses for custom kudos:

  • Active: Active kudos are shown in the Administration list with the checkbox checked. These kudos are actively in use and can be used by users.
  • Inactive: Inactive kudos are shown in the Administration list with the checkbox unchecked. These kudos can still be seen on the timeline with the original name and background image, but cannot be used to send new kudos. Inactive kudos will still show up as their own kudos type on the user profile.
  • Deleted: Deleted kudos won't show up in the Administration, but any kudos of this type that have been sent in the past will remain on the platform. You'll still see past kudos on the timeline where they were sent but with a generic look without a custom name or background. On the user's profile, deleted kudos are grouped together under the "Other kudos" category.
    • You can delete a kudos by editing it and selecting Delete.
