Once you've set up a blog app, you can create articles in it. First, you can work with a draft of the blog article, and when you're ready, you can publish it.
You can provide your blog articles in multiple languages or, if your platform uses automatic translations, let your users translate them to their preferred language when they read them.
Depending on how the app's authoring and publishing settings are configured, you might need to be an admin of the page or community to create and publish blog articles. Alternatively, you could be able to create blog drafts but might not have permission to publish them.
1. Create a blog draft
- Select Write new blog article to start a new article.
- Give your article a meaningful title that best reflects its content. The title has a maximum limit of 255 characters.
- Provide a brief teaser text that is displayed on the timeline and summarizes the article's message.
- Write the content for your article in the rich text editor. You can also select Switch to advanced mode to add widgets and adjust the layout to expand the article further. Learn more in Adding widgets.
- Check if you want the teaser to appear at the top of the article when you read it. If unchecked, your article will begin immediately with the individual content you created.
- Add Hashtags to complement your article and make it easier to find.
- Select Save to save your blog draft and exit the editor. This allows you to preview what the article will look like when published.
Optionally, you might be able to provide your article in other languages. Learn more in Providing blog articles in multiple languages.
2. Define teaser images
- In the article editor, select the Teaser images tab.
- Use the default teaser images as defined in the app settings, or upload a main teaser image. The main image is then automatically cropped to each relevant image format and ratio.
- Set a focal point for the main image. The focal point determines how the image is adjusted across all ratios.
- Preview how the teaser looks in each ratio and, optionally, replace the image for any ratio by uploading a separate image. The following image ratios and formats are available:
- 1:1 (Square). This ratio is always used for the teaser image when the article is shown in the blog app overview, in studio newsletters, shared on the timeline, and when reading the blog article in the browser.
- 3:1 (Ultra wide)
- 4:3 (Classic)
- 4:5 (Portrait)
- 2:1 (Large editorial)
You can also specify different images for different language versions of your article.
When you set up any blog widget, such as the Latest blog articles widget, Trending blog articles widget, or the Recent Content section on the mobile Dashboard, you can define which teaser image format is used for that element, allowing you to determine which image size is displayed. The chosen format is also respected in the mobile app.
3. Publish the article
- In the article editor, select the Publish tab.
- Choose whether to publish the article immediately or at a predefined date. You can select to notify the audience via the notification bell and a mobile app push notification.
- Select who will appear as the author of the article: you, the name of the page or community where the app is installed, or, depending on your permissions, another user. Learn more in Publish On Behalf overview.
- Unless commenting is disabled for the blog app, choose to Show or Hide comments, effectively allowing or not allowing comments on the article. After publishing, you can edit the article to change your preference.
- Define the archiving date for your article. If you've defined an auto-archiving timeframe in the app configuration, a date is automatically set based to that timeframe; you can manually change it if necessary.
- Select Publish, and your article is published or scheduled per your choice in step 2.
After your blog article is published, users can view the article on the platform. Depending on your selections and the app configuration, they might be notified or can find the article on the timeline.
