To send SMS messages from a US 10-digit long code number to recipients in the United States, you must complete Application-to-Person 10-digit long code registration, commonly called A2P 10DLC registration. You can find more details about the steps described in this article in Twilio's documentation.
The registration allows US telecommunications providers to verify your organization, understand the type of messages you plan to send, and confirm how recipients consent to receiving them.
Before starting the registration, ensure that you've completed the Twilio account setup to obtain a phone number and that you have an upgraded paid account, as described in Setting up SMS for the Studio.
Create your customer profile
The customer profile contains the business information Twilio uses to identify and verify your organization.
- In the Twilio Console, go to Messaging > Regulatory Compliance > Onboarding.
- Under Create Customer Profile, answer the questions in Profile Needs and select Continue.
- Under Business Details, select Direct Brand for Business Identity. Enter the requested information about your organization and select Continue.
- Enter your Business Address and any other required information, and select Save and Continue.
- Select Submit for Review when you've confirmed all details are correct.
Business profile approval may take 72 hours or more. In the meantime, you can continue registering your US A2P Brand while your profile is pending approval.
Register your brand
The brand registration connects your organization's verified business information to its SMS activities.
- Select Register Brand > Submit Brand.
- Enter the requested information about your organization and its messaging activities, such as your company type.
- Select a Brand Type that fits your usage and fees.
- Review and accept the one-time registration fee.
- Select Register.
Twilio submits the brand for approval. Most brands are reviewed within minutes, though the exact timing depends on your selected answers. You can check the review status in the Twilio Console, and you'll receive an email notification once the registration is processed.
Register your campaign use case
The campaign registration defines what messages you plan to send, who will receive them, and how recipients consent to receiving them.
- Select Campaign Registration > Register A2P Campaign.
-

[Your_company_name] employees consent to receiving SMS notifications by entering a valid phone number in the Mobile field of their user profile and enabling SMS in their notification settings. SMS notifications are disabled by default and must be actively enabled by each employee. We communicate through internal channels that enabling SMS means agreeing to receive messages about company updates and notifications. Employees can withdraw their consent at any time by disabling SMS in their notification settings. Removing their phone number from the Mobile field also prevents future SMS messages from being delivered.
Twilio submits the campaign for review and displays its status in the Twilio Console. Wait for approval before sending production SMS messages to US recipients from the registered number. Approval can take days.
The campaign description, sample message, and opt-in information should accurately reflect your organization's SMS usage. Incomplete or inconsistent information can prevent the campaign from being approved.
