You can share content via push notifications to reach users immediately. This can be especially useful for important announcements and time-sensitive updates. Users will only receive push notifications if they have enabled them in their notification settings.

A push notification share will also trigger an in-app notification in the mobile app and in the notification bell. This gives recipients an easy way to revisit the shared content later, even if they missed or dismissed the push notification.

Push notifications are sent only to users who have access to the shared content, no matter who the recipients are. For example, when sharing a post from a private community to a public page, only those who can see the private post will receive notifications.

Before you begin

Push notifications need to be activated for your platform, and you need one of the following permissions:

• Share content as push notification: Allows sharing content via push notifications to pages and communities you have access to.
• Share content as push notification (admin only): Allows sharing content via push notifications only to pages and communities you manage.

We recommend limiting these permissions to higher-level editors or admins of critical pages only to restrict push notifications to fewer users, help maintain their effectiveness, and prevent notification fatigue.

Share content as a push notification

1. Find the content that you want to share.
2. Select Share > Push notification.
3. In Share with, choose the users, pages, or communities with which you want to share the content. You can select multiple options.
4. Add a push message to appear above the original content. 
   • There is a 200-character limit; however, depending on the mobile device and screen size, the number of characters that fit on the screen varies. We recommend keeping the message short to ensure it displays on most devices.
5. In Send as, choose to share as yourself or as a page or community you manage.
6. Select Share as push.
7. A pop-up modal displays the number of users to receive the notification, based on selected pages, communities, users' audience, and those with push notifications enabled. Confirm that you'd like to send the push notification by selecting Share.

Subscribers of the selected page, members of the selected community, or the chosen user get a push notification about the shared content and can access it through the notification. 

Users will only receive a push notification if they have enabled them in their notification settings. If they are in the audience for the notification but haven't enabled push notifications, they won't receive the notification.
