On-Prem: The search function for on-premise

If you use an on-premises solution instead of the cloud solution, some functionalities of the search function are different or only available to a limited extent. Here you can find a list of the functionalities for the global search of the cloud solution.

Typos

Haiilo learns and suggests alternative search terms if there is an obvious typo.

Filter functionalities

In the on-prem solution, the search results can be refined with 4 different filter types: by the type of post, the last edit, the publishing location and the author. You can then sort the search results by relevance or date and narrow them down using the other selections in one or more of the filter categories.

The selected filters are not reflected in the URL. So if you go back in your browser's navigation after retrieving a result, you'll have to enter the filters you want again. This also means that you can't pass URLs to others with all filters already set.

Refine the search results with search operators

If you want to control the search even more precisely, you can enter the following operators together with your search terms. We have listed several examples to illustrate this:

AND search (AND) - Example: Marketing AND Plan: Returns results that contain the terms "marketing" and "plan". This is the default and does not need to be entered separately.
OR search (OR) - Example: Marketing OR Plan: Returns results that contain either "Marketing" or "Plan". So for example also "pension plan" or "marketing budget".
Search with wildcard (*) - Example: Plan*: Returns results with terms that start with the word "plan". The asterisk symbolizes a wildcard for any other characters. So, for example, this would find results for "planning" or "planability", etc. The asterisk can be used anywhere except at the beginning.
Exact search (") - Example: "marketing plan": Returns results for the exact term "marketingplan". Both terms must appear in exactly this order in the result. Use the quotation marks if you know the exact term you want to search for.
Exclude search terms (-) - Example: Marketing -Plan: Returns results containing the term "marketing" but not "plan".
Group operators (()) - Example: (Marketing OR Business) AND Plan: You can use the parentheses to put multiple operators in order. In this example, results are returned that contain either "Marketing Plan" or "Business Plan". Always use parentheses when you want to combine different operators.

Supported content types for search

Search does not provide a separate content type for comments. While comments are captured by the search, they are not explicitly identified as such within the results. The associated post or article is displayed instead.

The search results

If you are using an on-premise solution instead of the cloud solution, the following aspects are different when weighting the search results:

Relevance is evaluated based on the following factors:

Frequency of occurrence of the search term in a field.
Frequency of the search term in the entire index (only relevant for multiple search terms)
Length of the content (Example: If the search term is found in a title, this find is rated higher than if the term is found in a longer blog article, etc.)

Restrict search results via filters for On-Premises customers

You can combine filters. You can limit the content type to posts and combine this with the author Tim Luks. You can naturally also remove the filters at any time by clicking on the selected filters or add more filters.
