Use case: The use of media in Haiilo

Haiilo makes a text-based intranet a thing of the past. With Haiilo, you can design however you wish, upload media of all kinds, and give your users easier access to content.

Studies have shown that text with images is stored better in our memory. People perceive images 60,000 times more quickly than text. In addition, text and articles with carefully selected images attract more attention. We thus advise that you always embellish your own texts with images. When they first scroll the timeline, your users can then tell more quickly whether a post is interesting to them if the text has meaningful images.

What types of media are supported by Haiilo?

You can generally upload all common file types into Haiilo. There are certain restrictions on the displaying of thumbnails and previews, which we explain here:

Media integrated into Haiilo is played via the browser. If you’re uploading a file into Haiilo (e.g. a video), ensure that the format and codecs used can be played by as many different browsers and operating systems as possible. We are unable to provide you with an overview table here as there are simply too many combinations of browsers and operating systems and their respective versions.

Note:
When rendering videos, you should ensure that you use a default setting that explicitly supports web content. This allows you to present your content in the best possible way. Have you noticed that your content is displayed incorrectly or in different ways on different platforms and/or browsers? This indicates that the codec used when rendering the video or the audio file cannot be processed correctly by the respective browser or operating system. You can find out more about this in the article "File preview in Haiilo".

What sizes or resolutions are recommended?

For documents, you should bear in mind that the larger the document is, the longer it may also take to generate a preview or upload/download the document. Theoretically, your memory space limits, the performance of your clients, and the speed of the Internet connection are crucial here.

We have created a separate article for images – take a look here

Are there requirements concerning naming/nomenclature?

You are completely free to choose what you like here, but bear in mind: the shorter and more meaningful the name, the easier it is for users to identify the right element.

Note:
You require a file that has a stored format when uploading. Be sure to avoid manually changing the file endings (e.g. from .png to .jpg), as important elements can be impaired by doing this.
