Understanding the drop-down page menu

You can activate a drop-down menu that appears when users hover over the Pages element in the navigation bar. This offers a quicker, organized way for users to access your pages and content, displaying pages grouped by categories. The drop-down page menu is only available in the browser version of your platform.

The drop-down page menu is only available if you're using page categories. Once you create categories and assign your pages to them, the menu can be used. Learn more in Using categories for pages.

How the page menu works

The drop-down page menu is automatically created using your platform's page categories. Once activated, it will fill itself with relevant options.

  • Recently Opened: The first column displays the last pages you've visited. This data is stored in each user's browser's local storage and will be erased if the storage is cleared.
  • Up to the First Four Categories: Up to four additional columns display categories listed in the Manage Categories section for pages, in the same order as shown there. Categories without pages are not shown. All other categories can still be accessed through the Pages Overview.
  • Up to Five Pages Per Category: Each column lists up to five pages from each category. Pages with multiple categories may appear in several columns. Page titles are displayed in the user's preferred language, if applicable. Pages are arranged in this order:
    1. Auto-subscribed pages appear first, listed alphabetically.
    2. Then, pages to which a user has manually subscribed, listed alphabetically.
    3. Finally, all other pages a user has access to, listed alphabetically.
  • See All: Under each column, a See all button allows you to easily open the Pages overview with the category filter applied to view all pages of that particular category.

Activate the drop-down page menu

You need "Manage system settings" permission to activate the drop-down page menu.

  1. Go to Administration > System settings > General.
  2. Check the box for Enable page categories dropdown for the main navigation.
  3. Select Save.

The drop-down menu has been enabled and will now be visible to users.
