Publishing on behalf of another user

When delegated as a Content Creator for a Content Publisher, you can publish posts, blog articles, multichannel posts, and email newsletters in their name, provided both have access to the location and the Creator has publishing rights. Published content appears under the Publisher's name, and both parties receive comment notifications and can edit or delete the content. Content Creators cannot comment or react on behalf of Publishers.

When you've been delegated as a Content Creator for another user (the Content Publisher), you can publish in their name. Once the content is published, it appears in the Content Publisher's name.

The Content Publisher is notified when new content is published in their name. However, at the moment, they are not notified of shares created in their name.

Refer to Publish On Behalf overview for general information on the features and terminology related to Publish On Behalf.

Where can I publish on behalf of another user?

When it comes to publishing on behalf of someone, it's important to consider two key aspects: Access and Publishing rights.

  • Access: Both the Content Creator and the Content Publisher need to have access to the publishing location. If it's a private page and the Publisher isn't a subscriber, the Creator can't publish as them. But if the page is public, the Creator can publish even if the Publisher isn't subscribed, since they can still access the location. This ensures that Content Publishers can always access the content published on their behalf.
  • Publishing rights: The Creator needs to have permission to create and publish content in the desired locations, like a blog app or the Studio. The Content Publisher doesn't need publishing permissions.

To check if publishing on behalf is possible, you can ask yourself:

  • Do both the Content Creator and Publisher have access to the location?
  • Does the Content Creator have permission to create content there?

If you answer yes to both, you're good to go!

Publish a timeline post as another user

Content Creators can publish a timeline post on behalf of a Content Publisher by selecting the Publisher from the Post as drop-down menu and writing and configuring the post as usual. Content Creators cannot comment or react on a timeline post on behalf of a Content Publisher.

Once published, the post will appear to be published by the Content Publisher:

After publishing, both the Content Creator and the Publisher:

  • Are subscribed to the post to receive notifications for comments.
  • Can edit or delete the post.
  • Can reveal the original author of the post, which would display the Content Creator's name.
    • Likewise, page and community admins can reveal the original author of a post published on their page or community.

Content Creators cannot comment or react on a timeline post on behalf of a Content Publisher.

Content Creators should follow their Content Publisher. Otherwise, a post published on behalf of the Content Publisher on the personal newsfeed or timeline will not appear on the Content Creator's newsfeed after publishing it.

Publish a blog article as another user

Prerequisites

The Content Creator needs to have permission to create and publish blog articles in the blog app they want to publish on behalf of.

Content Publishers can see and edit drafts created on their behalf to collaborate with the Content Creator. However, they would need to have publishing permission for the blog app to publish a draft and edit the article after publishing.

How to

Content Creators can publish a blog article on behalf of a Content Publisher by selecting the Publisher in the Publish as drop-down menu of the Author section when creating a blog article.

Once published, the article will appear to be published by the Content Publisher:

After publishing, both the Content Creator and the Publisher:

  • Are subscribed to the article to receive notifications for comments.
  • Can edit or delete the article, if they have publishing permissions for the blog app.
    • Other page and community admins can also edit or delete the article; however, the Content Creator is the only user who can edit the Author settings again. The Author settings are not displayed for any other users editing the article.
  • Can reveal the original author of the article, which would display the Content Creator's name.
    • Likewise, page and community admins can reveal the original author of an article published on their page or community.

Content Creators cannot comment or react on a blog article on behalf of a Content Publisher.

If a Content Creator is removed from being able to publish as a Content Publisher, any blog article drafts or scheduled articles they had created beforehand will still be published in the Publisher's name.

Publish a multichannel post as another user

The Content Creator needs to have the following permissions to create and publish multichannel posts on behalf of a Publisher:

  • "Access Studio"
  • "Create, edit, and delete posts"
  • "Publish posts" (if this permission is not granted, the Creator needs to request approval from a user with publishing permission)

The Content Publisher doesn't need to have access to the Studio at all.

How to

Content Creators can publish a multichannel post on behalf of a Content Publisher by selecting the Publisher in the Publish as drop-down menu in the Studio editor.

Once published, the post will appear to be published by the Content Publisher:

Only the Content Creator can edit the published post in the Studio.

Content Creators cannot comment or react on a multichannel post on behalf of a Content Publisher.

If a Content Creator is removed from being able to publish as a Content Publisher, any scheduled posts they had created beforehand will still be published in the Publisher's name. The scheduled posts can be cancelled by the Creator or a user with moderator access. However, any existing drafts will be automatically updated to show the Creator as the author.
