Creating timeline polls

You can easily create a poll in a timeline post, making it simple to gather quick feedback from your colleagues. Answers in a timeline poll are always anonymous, so no user information is shared, even with the poll's creator. You need the "Create timeline polls" permission to create polls in timeline posts.

For general information on the timeline and creating timeline posts, read Timeline overview and Creating timeline posts.

To conduct formal polls or gather feedback on important topics, we recommend using the Poll widget. With this widget, you can create multi-select polls or allow users to write their own answer options. This helps gather more comprehensive information through polls.

Create a timeline poll

  1. Go to the timeline where you want to post.
  2. Select the poll icon.png icon to start creating your poll.
  3. Add a question and possible description for your poll.
  4. Define the answer options for your poll. You can add up to 8 options by selecting Add option. Each user can choose only one option; multi-select is not available.
  5. Optionally, configure your post and its settings before publishing.
  6. Select Post to publish your post.

Your poll becomes active as soon as it's published. A timeline poll remains open indefinitely and cannot be closed. Also, you cannot edit a timeline poll after it's been published.

Answer a timeline poll

In a timeline poll, you can only choose one option. After participating, you can see the results and the number of other participants. However, you cannot see who voted in the poll; polls are always anonymous.

You can select Change vote to change your answer or withdraw your vote.

If your platform uses automatic translation, only the question and text are machine-translated; the answer choices are not.
