Sharing Knowledge on Haiilo

In addition to sharing news, the second main purpose of every employee experience platform is to provide relevant information and knowledge in a clear and accessible structure. To meet the various needs related to different topics and the volume of content, Haiilo offers several apps designed for specific use cases.

Choosing the right app for each use case depends on several factors:

  • What is the scope/range/extent of the content that will be displayed?
  • Does the topic and its corresponding content require further structuring?
  • Does the content have a purely static character, or is there a collaborative element to it?
  • Do you want users who aren't admins of the page or community to be able to add to the content?

Content app

Provide overviews and introductions at first glance in an accessible way.

The content app is your preferred tool for sharing information with a straightforward display format. It functions like a blank canvas that can extend infinitely but always remains on a single sheet of paper. This app provides the flexibility to adjust the content to fit various scenarios by using numerous widgets, which can be arranged in a variety of layout options.

Only admins of the page or community where a content app is installed can edit it, making it one of the platform's most static elements.

Popular use cases

  • Introduction to a team, department, or location
  • Dashboard-like overview, providing access to different parts of a page or community

Wiki app

Share extensive amounts of knowledge in a structured and compressed way.

If the content app is like a single piece of paper, then the wiki app resembles a book with multiple pages and chapters. The wiki app is ideal for larger and more complex topics that require extensive organization. It consists of articles and sub-articles that can be nested within one another. Each article provides the same layout options and widget functionalities as the content app.

While it shares much of its DNA with the content app, the wiki app can be configured to allow users who are not admins of the page or community where the app is installed to contribute to and add to its content.

Popular use cases

  • Glossaries or knowledge bases that cover a topic end-to-end
  • Extensive guidelines with multiple aspects and dependencies (e.g., different versions for different locations)

Forum app

Ask questions and gain knowledge by discussing in a forum.

While the content and wiki app primarily focus on displaying information, the forum app emphasizes interaction and collaboration. This makes the forum app ideal for those who want to share knowledge and gather it. Like most forums, this app allows users to ask questions, provide answers to previously asked queries, tag specific colleagues who might contribute to the discussion, and attach additional media and files to their responses.

Forums often generate great insights and valuable knowledge. However, the information gained doesn't tend to be very accessible if it remains within the forum. To maximize the value of a forum, it is recommended to transfer the essentials of output into a wiki app, for example.

As a forum's success and productivity strongly depend on the level of interaction of its members, every user with access to the page or community where the app is installed can contribute to it by creating new threads and responding to existing ones.

Popular use cases

  • Q&A portals or "Knowledge hubs" that connect experts with other users (this is how we at Haiilo use the forum app)
