The chat feature works nearly identically in both the mobile app and the browser version of your platform, allowing users with "Write and receive messages" permission to seamlessly switch between the two. You can read instructions for using the chat on the mobile app in the regular chat articles. See the Chat section for more information.
That said, this article explains two distinct differences between the chat functionality in the mobile app and the browser.
Send voice messages
You can record and send voice messages in the mobile app chat.
- In the chat list, select a chat or group channel.
- Select or press on in the message field.
- Record your message and select to send it. If you need to cancel, select Tap to cancel.
When you receive a voice message, you can listen to it in the browser or mobile app chat. Currently, voice messaging cannot be disabled.
Reply to messages
You can reply to a specific message in the mobile app chat.
- In the chat list, select a chat or group channel.
- Press and hold on a message you want to reply to.
- Select Reply
- Write your reply and select to send it.
After your message is sent, you can see the replied-to message displayed above your new message in the mobile app chat and the browser chat.
Block file uploads (white label apps)
If you use Haiilo's White Label Mobile App, you can block file uploads to prevent users from uploading images, files, and other types of content in the mobile app chat. This feature also blocks users from copying and pasting or using the Share feature of other apps to add content to the chat. Sending voice messages is not affected and will remain available.
