If a post is deleted from the timeline, all its data is removed from the platform. This includes text, comments, and attachments that were uploaded directly into the post. Deleted posts cannot be restored.
Delete a post
- Find the post you want and have permission to delete
- Select in the upper right corner of the post
- Select Delete
Never delete a shared post the same way you would delete a regular timeline post! Shared posts are linked to the original element that was shared, so if you delete a shared post like a regular timeline post, you are deleting the original post rather than the individual share. To delete an individual share, select X shares > > Delete instead.
Who can delete posts?
The types of posts you can delete depend on your permissions and the element to which the post is published.
Delete your own posts
You can delete the posts that you create yourself if you have "Delete timeline items" permission. For example, if you post on a page's timeline. The easiest place to find your own posts is on your personal profile timeline.
Content that you have shared with another element also counts as a post you created. You can delete an individual share by selecting X shares > > Delete. Learn more in Sharing content internally.
Delete other users' posts
When it comes to being able to delete other users' posts, these are the scenarios in which it is possible:
-
You can always delete content inside apps of a page or community you manage. For example, you can delete blog articles in the blog app. This includes deleting posts and shares on your page or community's timeline, even if they are created by other users. For this, you need to the a page or community admin and have need the "Delete timeline items" and "Edit page/community" permissions.
Example: A user posts on the timeline of a page or community that you manage. As the admin of the page/community, you manage the page/community and its content, and, therefore, you can delete the post.
If you would like to prevent page or community admins from being able to delete timeline posts and shares on their page or community, you can remove the "Delete timeline items" permission from users. However, doing so also means that users won't be able to delete their own posts. Consequently, only those with "Access moderator mode" or "Manage reported content" permission can delete posts.
-
You can delete other users' posts if you have "Access moderator mode" permission and have activated moderator mode. You activate moderator mode in the user drop-down menu Enable moderator mode. Learn more in Moderator mode.
Example: You come across a post that violates company policy. It is located on a page you don't explicitly manage. Since you have "Access moderator mode" permission, you activate moderator mode, so you can delete the post immediately.
-
You can delete other users' posts if the posts on the platform has been reported and you have "Manage reported content" permission. You can delete reported posts without explicitly having permission to manage the element in which the posts were published. Learn more about managing reported content in Reporting content.
Example: Users have reported a post that is located on a page you don't manage. You are an admin in charge of handling reported content. You review the post in the Reported content section and delete it as it violates company policy.
