The personal timeline exists on a user profile's Activity tab. On your user profile's personal timeline, you can only see timeline items that personally concern you or those you've posted yourself. You need "Access own profile" permission to access your own profile and "Access other profiles" permission to access other users' profiles.

In general, the following is shown:

• Posts that you have created as yourself in any element
• Posts that you have shared with another user or element
• Posts that others have created on your timeline
• Posts that others have shared with you

There is also a Timeline app and a Timeline widget, but they have different purposes than the personal timeline. Although all timelines have the same options for creating and configuring posts, the timeline app functions like a communication channel, and the timeline widget acts as a personalized newsfeed.
